To mark World Autism Awareness Day, ECOTEC University held the panel discussion “Autism at the University: Strengths, Needs and Accommodations for Full Inclusion,” a space designed to foster understanding and dialogue within the academic community.

The event brought together students, faculty and attendees interested in approaching autism from a rights-based perspective, highlighting not only the challenges but also the strengths of people on the spectrum. Throughout the session, participants shared reflections on the importance of creating accessible environments and putting in place supports that enable genuine inclusion in higher education.

The conversation featured María Fernanda Chang, Alejandro Ruiz Pesantes, Eduardo Palacios Cesén and Claudia Amat, who drew on their experience and knowledge to offer diverse perspectives on the topic. Their contributions opened a space for collective learning and for breaking down stigma.

During the panel, speakers stressed the need to keep building a more aware university community, where diversity is understood as a value rather than a barrier.

This inclusive approach ties directly into educating professionals who can thrive in diverse, global environments. Through its Global Employability campaign, ECOTEC promotes the development of human and social skills that enable its students to enter, adapt to and make an impact in different work settings.

ECOTEC thus reaffirms its invitation to go beyond the traditional boundaries of education, developing leaders who stand out not only for their knowledge but also for their ability to build more inclusive societies anywhere in the world.
