In the main hall of the Networking Center at our Samborondón Campus, we celebrated the moving Ceremony of Light, an event that symbolizes the commitment and calling to serve of students in the Nursing program, who received their caps and armbands before beginning their rotating internship.

As we mark our 20 years as an institution, we continue to reaffirm our purpose of educating professionals who combine ethical and human values with science and technology, prepared to serve humanity with deep responsibility.

A message about the most sacred pact

The event was attended by authorities of our institution, including Dr. Leticia de Moral, President of the Board of Regents, who opened the ceremony.

In her remarks, Dr. Leticia de Moral stressed the importance of transforming the hospital healthcare system and inspired the new cohort: “By receiving this armband, you are embracing the most sacred pact there is: caring for human life. You carry the light of knowledge, ethics and love for others to every corner where you practice your profession.” She also encouraged them to leave a lasting mark: “Be that beacon of hope and relief the world needs so much; patients will find faith, hope and empathy in you, because they will always remember you.”

The Florence Nightingale Pledge at the Ceremony of Light

One of the high points of the ceremony was the taking of the traditional Florence Nightingale Pledge, led by our president, Dr. Joaquín Hernández Alvarado. In unison, the new cohort of interns pledged to practice the profession with loyalty, honesty and dignified conduct in the service of society.

The voice of the top student in the class

María Mercedes Torres Betancourt, recognized as the top student of her class, voiced her classmates’ feelings about this new challenge: “Receiving this cap represents the responsibility we must carry in hospitals, caring for patients with all the knowledge we have gained at the university.” She also invited future generations to join the institution, assuring them that our university is where the best professional and personal memories are made.

True to our vision of excellence, we continue to build an educational ecosystem where practice and knowledge come together. We are the place where a new generation of professionals explores creative solutions to today’s challenges, leads impactful projects with social responsibility and transforms its surroundings to build a more competitive and humane country. Take the first step and become part of the science and education that change lives.
