ECOTEC Educational Model

General Education

The Educational Model of Universidad Tecnológica ECOTEC recognizes that a university education goes beyond specialized technical training. Its purpose is to develop well-rounded professionals with critical thinking skills, ethical sensitivity, research capabilities, and global civic awareness.

In-person, hybrid, and online modalities

The general education curriculum is the curricular expression of that purpose: the institutional mechanism that ensures all ECOTEC graduates, regardless of their program or study modality, develop the cross-cutting competencies that define the institution’s Educational Hallmark.

First component

Foundational Core

Integrates seven mandatory courses for all undergraduate students, regardless of their program or modality. These courses were selected based on the institutional Educational Model and ECOTEC’s four cross-cutting competencies: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Leadership and Teamwork, Creativity and Innovation, and Research.

The Foundational Core ensures that all ECOTEC graduates share a common educational foundation, with exposure to the three major areas of knowledge required for a comprehensive university education.

Second component

Knowledge Area Core

Complements the Foundational Core with a minimum of 9 additional credits, integrated into each program’s curriculum. These courses reinforce the general education competencies most relevant to each field of knowledge, without reducing themselves to specific technical or disciplinary content.

The organization follows the epistemological logic of knowledge fields — not the administrative structure of the schools or the study modality. Click on each area to view the corresponding courses.
