ECOTEC and contribution to innovation: A perspective based on sustainability.
ECOTEC sustainability and innovation are a fundamental part of the development of strategies to comply with actions that benefit the environment from the academy. With the advances that are implemented over time, it is necessary to know where the results of our sustainable development are heading with innovations that we have already implemented.
From the Research Department we spoke with Edgar Salas Luzuriaga, Ph.D., Director of Innovation and Sustainability ECOTEC who commented on the innovation approach we have as a Higher Education Institution committed to the environment and ecological awareness.
What sustainable actions does ECOTEC promote?
ECOTEC bases the development of its activities on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the United Nations (UN). Thus, through classes, institutional communication and other actions aligned to a Strategic Plan for Sustainability and Innovation, innovation policies and an Environmental Management Plan; it is possible to know the situation of the campuses in the face of the proposed green actions.
What is the importance of innovation in educational institutions?
Innovation should be fundamental in educational institutions at all levels, since we are in a process of continuous improvement, where its frequent use makes us never stop, but beyond that, it is to think that we can generate sustainable institutions, where we can raise awareness of human beings to take action for the future of the planet.
What have been the achievements we have made with innovation in our university?
Our university is the first in Higher Education to be certified as Carbon Neutral, by measuring and compensating our Carbon Footprint. In addition, we have a wastewater treatment plant that will be used to irrigate plants and a photovoltaic plant that generates clean energy for our own use. We also belong to the international ranking The Times Higher Education and in the Green Metric in green actions.
All ecological actions, in addition to generating a more sustainable world, raise awareness among all of us who make up the #TeamECOTEC to reflect on the care of the environment as an incentive to preserve nature, generating positive changes.
